The Strong Characters series explores a White American and European fantasy of people of color as outlets for expressing that which is stifling and oppressive in Western colonialist culture, and the simultaneous fear and jealousy toward people of color who resist that fantasy. It explores common ‘Sassy’ ‘Strong Woman’ and ‘Badass’ tropes as white fantasies, and explores the source of desire for these fantasies in Western culture and history.A physical collage was assembled and the resulting diorama was digitally photographed.
